Sur un malentendu, ça peut marcher ("It Might Work on a Misunderstanding")
Exhibition by Nicolas Trüb — Montrouge Media Library (13 January – 3 February 2026)
An (almost) official art exhibition in Montrouge
Sometimes art slips in where you don't expect it. By gentle break-in. By semantic slippage. By carefully maintained misunderstanding.
With "Sur un malentendu, ça peut marcher", Nicolas Trüb offers an exhibition that looks like a serious exhibition — and perhaps is more serious than it seems. From 13 January to 3 February 2026, the Montrouge Media Library hosts this body of work on the border between the plausible, the false, the possible… and the frankly debatable.
Everything looks normal. And yet.
Neatly aligned wall labels. Credible cultural references. Works signed by well-known names… or almost. Institutions you would swear you had already heard of.
Then doubt sets in. A polite, cultivated, almost elegant doubt.
Take Les Homards de Vinci (Leonardo's Lobsters): technical drawings worthy of Leonardo's notebooks, applied to mechanical crustaceans. Too beautiful to be fake. Too absurd to be true. And yet, who can say with a straight face that Leonardo da Vinci would not have thought about the aerodynamics of the lobster?
Misunderstanding as a work of art
Here, misunderstanding is not an accident: it is the raw material. That precise moment when the brain hesitates between I believe it
and they're making fun of me
. That brief moment of wavering when everything can still tip over.
The exhibition plays on our need for legitimacy: the venue, the label, the frame, the logo, the right vocabulary. Elements that, once brought together, are often enough to turn fiction into cultural truth.
When the institution joins in
Supreme irony (or stroke of genius), the exhibition was selected and programmed by the Town of Montrouge, and now takes refuge within an institution of knowledge itself: the municipal media library.
The misunderstanding then changes scale. What was played out in a small voice becomes a collective experience. The fiction is now duly catalogued, dated and located.
An opening night of high plausibility
On Tuesday 20 January 2026 at 6:30pm, the Montrouge Media Library officially opens the doors of doubt: an opening in the presence of town representatives, followed by a drink. Because even scepticism deserves to be celebrated.
You'll come to see. You may leave convinced. Or slightly worried. Or simply delighted to have been fooled with elegance.
